– Protocol Compatibility: ANT+ FE-C, ANT+ Power, Bluetooth Smart Trainer Control, Bluetooth Smart Power Had my core since the end of 2018. Wahoo stands behind its products even beyond our stated warranty. Wahoo implemented this fix the week of Sept 24th, 2018 (units made after that), however, keep in mind that it takes about four weeks on the water (by ship) before units hit distribution centers. If ESD is a concern, I’d find a way to ground the bike or the Core with a grounding strap. I’m a bit cautious since it is the third one now, but we will see how it goed. Same thing here. I’m in a basement, on a rubber mat, with extra ground on my power strip. Seems to me that someone in Colorado is more likely to experience these failures than say, someone in Georgia. It wasn’t meant as a complane Eli, I was simply trying to be helpful by pointing out a typo 😉, I think Eli was joking – it’s spelt “complain”. So Wahoo still hasn’t figured this out….  I aim to leave no stone unturned. Question: Since I’ve switched from my TACX Vortex to the Kickr my power output (not heartrate or perceived exertion!!!) The distances between the gearrings and everything should be the same… It’s really just a case of attaching those two legs. there will be 100% failure rate in early kickr 18s that receive sufficient use to trigger it. Leaping forward a year from this review, do you still feel that this is the right way to go for someone not taking the Neo, and who is using a standard road bike? Anybody out there who has done or is doing the key fix? Kickr Core unit #3 is on the way to me now. – Handle: This unit lacks a handle compared to newer KICKR units, still, it’s not too bad to move around as I found out for taking photos Note some trainers do come with them. Ordered 6 weeks ago, money gone, no shipment, no answer…. Indeed, I had to send mine back for a new unit. * I also pointed out to them how disappointing this is that they continue to ship out defective units, despite the fact that there are so many customer complaints. This is a x-post from the original Kicker Core review post, but I’d like to get some feedback from people affected by this issue. *no wrestlers were harmed in the making of this video. Want to be part of the Velocipede family? 3% defect rate or not, someone at Wahoo should be held accountable for the complete lack of quality control and testing. Luckily, I have a power tap that I can use with my dumb rollers if the core would fail again. Is the climber add-on worth it? Its quiet at high cadence(80+) at 400+watts but at low cadence(50+-) and high watts i hear something…its almost vibrating… Is that normal? Wouldn’t only have to be out a trainer for a few days in that case. Ugh! Wahoo is replacing the unit. Tonight I was riding on my own on the Core so the other trainers were off. Seems like quite a few people have had similar problems with this noise particularly with the Core. The KICKR CORE indoor trainer is built with the durabilty to withstand all of your indoor training sessions and no other brand of … It’s as if they think that if they don’t say anything, no one will notice. I have received a Kickr Core last week and I just found what I think are abnormal noise/vibrations, specially at high speed. Though, I suppose on the flip side…maybe a non-Wahoo power brick might be better after all. In my experience with Wahoo, if you were unfortunate enough (like me) to blunder into one of their defective kickr 18s, Wahoo interprets you to have been an intentional customer of a defective product and treats you accordingly. Hi, I have juste disovered jour blog, it’s an amazing work you do, I love your way of testing products. I contacted Wahoo support. The replacement was a newer serial number, again with the improved power block. it is too neat a number, meaning not random. Another dead Kickr Core for me, this time the speed/power is out and nothing has worked to get it to come back. A week from 2018 I get a Kicker 2018 (not the Core, which is a good detail on their part). I bought a KickR in April with them and still haven’t receive it. After a or 45 min, I asked my son to spin the pedal on the bike which was on the Direto X. Thanks for the info from the “shop” perspective. 3% of the world, sure – but I think this is more than 3% of the biking community that uses a trainer made by wahoo…. The Kickr will measure the power on a complete different point of the bike and not instant on the crank like our power meter. I then moved the caliper before retensioning so lost the tension (slap on wrist already done). I don’t really understand, as the Kickr Core has not necessary the rear wheel. I’m getting worried. What can I do? But before we get too far, let’s do a quick dive into the core (get it?) All on plenty of apps too – Zwift, Fulgaz, TrainerRoad, and more.  I’ve been capturing all that data and have it here for you to dig into. I hate to do that, the turbo is heavy and packing it will be simply put, a PITA. What I do know though is that they aren’t typically 20% easier. 11-speed, 10-speed, 9-speed, etc...). So by how much will power accuracy degrade – is there a relationship between temperature and power such that I could take a view on when to stop using it outdoors? Any ideas on if tacx/Garmin are planning on releasing a new version this year? It’s a nice break from the day to day sports-tech talk, and I hope you get something out of it! Those issues should not have gone through out the door, even if they are design issues, they should have addressed it before put into mass production. Not disputing that, but I’ve bought 2x Vectors and a Fenix3 from them, and their service has been good. Anyone have a uk contact for wahoo regarding the sudden lose of speed /power data ? Why haven’t you yet released a review for XYZ product you mentioned months ago? To make it a bit easier to read I’ll add a 5-second smoothing and zoom in for the first 9 minutes or so: You can see that the Stages LR and CORE match very well, with the SRM pedals tracking a bit below it. Of course, some people may even like this ‘feature’ – it’s free wattage.  Though, most days I try to at least pretend not to like it.  And then there’s the simple reality that it’s something Wahoo can probably fix in a firmware update. I also hear a whirring sound as if a bearing is bad, not loud but it is there when the flywheel is turning, no matter if i’m pedaling or coasting. It seems that according two the recent comments the CORE issues persist for some. Won’t be giving it a 3rd try. PS: By the way, I paid for expedited delivery (couple of days lead time) which they charged. Your choice. So let’s zoom in on the two sprints in there. Our CEO has confirmed with us that swapping the power supply will not address this issue directly. For fun, here’s another quick graph showing the same thing from another ride: You can ignore the lower Stages LR value on the sprint, as I was using it in a single-sided Stages-R configuration for an unrelated test (though, it does show you the impact of left/right balance differences in sprints).  As you can see, the KICKR CORE rises about 60-80w above Vector 3. Wahoo need a kick up the ****. But as I understand the repair process, although the key should be tight enough on the shaft to require a pliers to squeeze it in, it’s not necessary for the pulley to require a force to push onto the shaft and key. Yeah, there’s honestly a pretty big difference between the Flux and the Core. During my 1 year warranty period I lost 4 months waiting for replacement units when I brought this up with Wahoo nothing was done. As far as usage goes, I love the core and is exceptionally quiet and smooth and I’m really happy with the electronic braking (erg mode) during trainerroad intervals. The way I use the trainer is that I choose the gear with the best chain line and then leave it there. Even the tone and body language in this video shows that they don’t understand. Previously they shipped a new unit to me, which lessened the number of missed workouts and then I shipped the broken unit back. They offer me a brand new unit. I would like to support DCR and enjoy ad-free DC Rainmaker ($20 per year). No offense to us in the biking community, but are we really that LARGE a subset? – Wahoo took 10 days to respond to my message to their customer support And certainly for Wahoo, dealing with swapping out heavy trainers isn’t a cheap proposition by any means. It really nails it in line with the power meters.  Again, the slight variability on the first couple were mostly me having it in too ‘fast’ a gear (which is why TrainerRoad recommends a smaller ring up front). FWIW, if anyone considering a Kickr Core, I’d suggest something else. 5% incline.  In this mode, it’s just like outdoors in that you can change your gearing to make it easier or harder.  Wattage is not hard-set, only incline levels. Called customer service and they shipped out a new core the next business day with 2 day shipping so I can confirm their customer service has been stellar. Thank you Wahoo. The article references ESD as a problem in the Kickr Core. Distance and time was reasonable, but cadence and power was only showing some data points… maybe only, when the app was active (and not Netflix)? Example, I m doing an interval and the TARGE POWER is 250W, then the EDGE loose the connection/signal with the CORE and the brake is off…no more resistance… The workaround is to go to the screen where I can use the + – buttons and send a new TARGET POWER. The chance of making a spelling or grammatical mistake approaches 1, when correcting someone else on such an error. Well, KICKr Core #2 finally failed. Maybe we all bought a bad batch??? Any thoughts? It’s really important to understand that this requires the correct type of loctite, and the precise usage including how to apply, cleaning and activator. Products have problems great companies support them. I have no problem on the stability, even though you feel that it is easier to lean more to one side that the other due to the weight of the free-wheel. I will probably be able to sell my Vortex for around $400 (don’t ask! So far so good. Two weeks ago I upgraded an old Elite turbo to the Wahoo Kickr Core, it is very quiet but have had nothing but frustration with the Core’s power measurement since. Fear not, we’ll get to that in just a moment. But is it really that simple? Fran. 🙂, Yeah, was meant as a joke, sorry. The first kickr worked well for one month, then it started rattling after an half hour of riding on it. They say that it does simulate up to 10%, but I feel that after reaching 7-8 %, I max out, and I just go steady from there. For those owning these feet, is it something that appears if I were to custom drill new holes in the horizonal bars of a Kickr Core I could use my own bolts to attach these? Chip in the video should be held accountable for not hiring a competent QA group that should have vetted the product during engineering design long before it got to manufacturing and shipping. THREE Cores and now ONE Kickr later this has turned in to an absolute joke. Notify me of followup comments via e-mail. And in any case, the price of these pieces of equipment is totally unreasonable compared to the technological value that the companies put in your hands, and this is true for anything that goes around the world of cycling.
